Schools and academies
This is an exciting time in the education sector, with numerous schools within the state system taking the opportunity to become one of the new Academies.
We have significant experience acting for schools and are well placed to provide the support that is required both before and after achieving Academy status.
The new Academies Act has resulted in many newly formed Academy schools requiring advice and support from professional advisers.
We already act for a number of the new Academies, and we understand the challenges that come with the opportunities represented by the more independent status of an Academy.
We are able to advise on implementing the appropriate structures for private schools and Academies, and can help with various functions such as accounting and payroll, which represent a challenge to newly established Academies, used as they are to having these functions dealt with centrally.
Prior to Academy status
Before committing to Academy status it is important that the governors are aware of all the potential benefits and drawbacks of becoming an Academy. We can discuss this with you and ensure that you are aware of all of the issues prior to making such an important decision.
After Academy status
When Academy status is achieved you will have much greater financial autonomy. This also means greater responsibility and we can provide support in the following areas:
- Preparation of accounts in charity format (SORP 2005)
- Statutory audit
- Company secretarial (annual returns etc)
- Payroll function
- Accounting software training and support
- Cash flow forecasts
- Corporation tax compliance
We are one of the leading advisers to the education sector in the county. Please contact one of the Academies team if you would like to discuss any of the above or require any further information about the firm.
